the closest thing I saw to that type of setting in the BIOS is "Legacy USB Support." I made sure this was enabled, but no dice. Is there any way to convert just one of the USB 3.0 ports in the back of my computer to operating as a USB 2.0 port?Ĭlick to expand. So this is at the root of my question. Any ideas on if this is: the mouse's fault, the motherboard's fault, or the OS's fault?Ģ. With the extension cable, it booted up correctly one time out of two.ġ. When I tried using the adapter the computer didn't even register that the mouse was plugged in.

I also happened to have a USB 2.0 extension cable around, as well as a USB-to-PS/2 adapter. So that's where it's at right now, but I'd rather not leave it there, since it leaves my mouse cord a bit stretched and makes access to the other front ports more difficult. I'd just rather not have to do those extra three steps every time I turn the machine on.Īfter playing with the xHCI setting in the BIOS (Enabled, Auto, Smart Auto), and Legacy USB Support, and many other settings, I finally discovered the mouse boots correctly with the computer if I plug it into one of the USB 2.0 ports in the front of the machine. I can fix it by simply unplugging the mouse, plugging it back in, then going back into the mouse software to re-apply my settings. The mouse is lit up and working, but then halfway through the logo it turns off for a couple seconds, flashes on for half a second, then turns off permanently. The problem comes when the Windows logo is showing. When I restart, the mouse continues to work before Windows boots up (it works in the BIOS). So basically, when I plug in the mouse to one of the back USB 3.0 ports and do all my custom settings on it, it works perfectly for the entirety of that session of Windows. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H. I've had the mouse for several months already, it's a fairly new model and had worked fine on my old rig. Just got my new rig up and running a few days ago, and I'm wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on an odd nagging issue I've run into relating to my mouse.
